Ashwell Prince becomes a Veteran
Former Protea cricketer Ashwell Prince will make his debut in the Evergreen Lifestyle Western Province Veterans T20 league for his club Victoria Cricket Club against Green Point Cricket Club on Wednesday.
The 44-year-old left-hander represented South Africa in all formats of the game, having started his career with Eastern Province back in the 1995/96 season. He then spent 11 seasons with Western Province/Cobras, and also had stints in County Cricket with Nottinghamshire and Lancashire.
He holds two South African Test partnership records - 267 for the fifth wicket with Jacques Kallis against West Indies in Antigua in 2004/05, and 271 for the sixth wicket with Mark Boucher against Bangladesh at Centurion in 2008.
Following his retirement in 2015, Prince embarked on a coaching career, leading the Cape Cobras very successfully. He is currently employed as a batting consultant for the Bangladesh national team.
Prince will join Victoria Cricket Club for Round 6 of the Western Province veterans League as they push for top honours. The club is currently leading Group A in the league and with the introduction of Prince could ensure they finish at the top.
The Final matches of the Veterans league will be held at Newlands Cricket Stadium on 27 February, 2022.
