Sharma headlines Indian squad

Sanjeev Sharma is the biggest name amongst the Indian side for the 2023 Over-50 World Cup to take place in Cape Town next month.

The 57-year-old is now one of his team’s better batsmen, but in his heyday he opened the bowling with Indian legend Kapil Dev in two Tests and 23 ODIs.

The side will be led by the top runscorer in this format, Iqbal Khan, a former Ranji Trophy player who averages well over 50.

India will again rely heavily on their spinners, Tushar Jhaveri and Ashwani Arora, along with Dinesh Sharma, who is his country’s highest wicket-taker in Over-50s cricket.

The Over-50s World Cup, again sponsored by Evergreen Lifestyle, will run between March 6-20. India face a tough ask getting out of a Division B which also features the likes of England, South Africa and Pakistan.
