WPCC, Primrose join Veterans League

Western Province Cricket Club and Primrose Cricket Club have been included in the 2020/21 Western Province Veterans League.

They join clubs from Claremont, Cape Town, Green Point, Montrose, Fish Hoek, St Augustine’s, Rondebosch and last season’s winners, Pinelands Cricket Club, in the season which will start in January.

The league, which is managed by the Veterans Cricket Association of South Africa (VCASA), an ancillary member of Cricket South Africa, has officially been endorsed by the Western Province Cricket Association. Known previously as the Cape Veterans League, the new 10-club strong league will be known as the Western Province Veterans League.

Whilst the official league will only start in January 2021 as per the CSA and WPCA Covid-19 guidelines, friendlies are already underway.

Rondebosch and Green Point CC played the first match which ended in an exciting tie. Former Western Province player and Green Point CC stalwart, Peter Martin, hit a six off the last ball to see the match end all square on 105 runs each.

The following friendly fixtures will take place on Wednesday 18 November, starting at 4pm:

· Cape Town CC vs St Augustine’s at Cape Town Cricket Club

· Pinelands CC vs Montrose CC at Pinelands Cricket Club

· Fish Hoek CC vs Primrose CC at Fish Hoek Cricket Club and

· Western Province CC vs Claremont CC at WPCC (15:30)
