Two Proteas in Team of the Tournament

Proteas Veterans duo Brandon Nash and Alan Dawson were included in the Over-50 Cricket World Cup Team of the Tournament.

Former Natal batsman Nash finished with 298 runs at an average of 59 and a strike-rate of 84, including a 98 against Wales at Claremont Cricket Club.

Former Western Province and South Africa swing-bowler Dawson was arguably the standout player of the tournament. He picked up 13 wickets at an average of 15 and an economy rate of 3.49 to go with 215 runs scored, including a brilliant 92 in the final against England.

The XI also includes Giles Ecclestone, whose 120 in the decider at Newlands won England the trophy, as well as former Zimbabwe international Murray Goodwin, who finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 377.

Pakistan’s Jaffar Qureshi leads the bowling attack, having picked up a tournament high 16 wickets at an average of 12.38 and an economy-rate of less than 3.5.

Two players from the USA, the World Cup rookies who went all the way to the semifinals, also made the cut - Fazal Alam and Parak Ananta.
